Quarrying waste disposal issues
Previously, in one of our videos, specifically the one titled "In - depth Analysis of Marble Quarry Location Selection and Actual Quarrying Difficulties", we mentioned that the piling of waste materials can have a certain impact on quarry production. In this video, let's talk about an issue that many quarry owners often overlook: quarry waste disposal.
Hello, everyone. I'm Oliver Mo, who produces and sells wire saw machines. Before the construction of a stone quarry, it's necessary to choose a waste dump with sufficient capacity. This dump is used to store and handle the waste soil generated during the stripping of the ore - body covering layer and weathered layer in the quarry construction phase, as well as the soil from building quarry transportation routes and the crushed stone waste from the quarrying stage. If there's no suitable waste dump or its capacity is insufficient, and the waste soil is randomly piled near the quarrying face, it will not only cover the ore deposit, affecting subsequent quarrying, but also lead to secondary waste cleaning, increasing quarrying costs. Moreover, it can cause environmental pollution, and even pose potential geological hazards or directly trigger them.
In the early stage of stone quarrying, the waste dump is usually selected in the surrounding rock of the ore - body near the quarry or in parts of the ore - body with no quarrying value. It's best located in valleys or hollows and should not be upstream of water sources or near rivers. According to the actual situation, the distance between the waste dump and the quarrying face should preferably be no less than 1 kilometer to reduce disposal costs. As the quarrying years go by, if the quarrying face forms a sunken open - pit quarry and reaches the final quarrying level, and it's confirmed that further downward quarrying is not economically viable, and there are still exploitable ore - body resources or active quarrying faces around, the abandoned quarry pit can be used as a new waste dump. Backfilling the quarrying waste into the pit is more beneficial for environmental restoration.
While using the waste dump, according to the local situation, timely vegetation restoration should be carried out on the dump. Planting reeds or other fast - growing plants can prevent soil erosion and mudslides, which may cause secondary pollution or geological disasters.
In stone quarrying, apart from the rough stone blocks used for stone processing, all crushed stones should be comprehensively utilized according to a feasible comprehensive utilization plan. Once the stone quarry enters normal production, the comprehensive utilization plan for the discarded stones should be implemented simultaneously. If it can't be implemented due to certain constraints, a more suitable place should be selected for piling. The selection of the piling site should follow the regulations of waste dumps, and conditions should be created for comprehensive development and utilization. According to the "Technical Specifications for Open - pit Decorative Stone Quarries", the comprehensive recovery rate of decorative stone quarry ore should not be less than 50%.
Finally, I'm Oliver Mo, producing and selling wire saw machines. I hope to be your partner in the stone quarrying business. See you in the next video.
